Frank Plemons: Born 11/12/1912 in Ellijay, GA; Died 3/12/1925 in Ellijay, GA-due to gangrene that had set into a broken arm-doctors did know what to do then for such infections; Buried: Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ellijay, GA

Willard Woodrow Plemons-(my grandfather): Born 5/24/1917 in Ellijay, GA; Died 11/22/1989 in Atlanta, GA due to heart attack (he had had several prior to this); Buried: Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ellijay, GA; Married Myrtle Elizabeth Kell in 12/1936 in Ellijay, GA; Children include: Edwin Frank Plemons: Born 9/16/1937 in Dalton, GA; Betty Jean Plemons: Born: 3/22/1939 in Ellijay, GA; Barbara Ann Plemons: Born: 3/2/1946 in Ellijay, GA; William Alan Plemons: Born: 5/7/1956 in Ellijay, GA. Dear Warren, I am one of your long lost cousins! I met your brother, Jack, recently in Sweetwater. My family was taking my father's ashes back to Sweetwater for burial. He died in Dec. We live in Lakeland, Fl. My father's parents were Julia Plemons Blanton & Hugh Oliver Blanton. The First Methodist Church in Sweetwater held a reception at the church, after the graveside service. That was where I met Jack & Ritamarie and we began talking about family. It was interesting that I learned of 4 new relatives that day! Even the minister, Julian Walton, is related. I am very interested in keeping the family genealogy and would appreciate any information that you have about the Plemons side. My dad was Franklin Stuart Blanton and his sister was Matilee Blanton Lonas. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for any help you may give. I found "Branches" very interesting. Enjoyed seeing the photo of my grandfather, Hugh Blanton, in the Winter 2000 edition. I did not see my father's obituary in "Branches". I have enclosed a copy from the Sweetwater newspaper. Maybe you can include some of it. Sincerely, Kaye Blanton McConnell

Hello Kaye, I am very pleased to receive your message. I was very sorry to hear about Frank's passing. I heard about it from my sister Edna several weeks after it happened.

I am also sad to say that I know very little of my Aunt Julia’s family and her descendents. I started researching the family history, along with my first cousin James Thomas Plemons (Julia’s brother’s Thomas’s son) many years ago, and this was picked up by my brother Hal. When Hal died, his son Mike continued by posting his close relations on the web.

Out of curiosity, my brother Jack, his wife, Ritamarie, my sister Mildred, and I attended a Plemons family reunion in Chattanooga several years ago. We knew that it was "not our line" but we wanted to make the acquaintance of other Plemons. There I met Joe Plemons, from Indian Head, Maryland.

Joe had been doing Plemons family genealogy researches for many, many years and had a wealth of information. He also put me in touch with Janet Webb, from Waynesville, North Carolina. Janet’s husband’s mother is a Plemons, and Janet began collecting info on them. North Carolina, to my surprise, is populated with Plemons/Plemmons, and most could be traced back to one original family.

I had thought that my family was small and only located in east Tennessee. I had always believed that we were not related to the Plemmons (with two "M"s). I have since learned that the family is vast, and is spread from coast to coast. Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Alabama have large populations of Plemmons/Plemons, and even a town in Texas is named Plemons, Texas (founded by Judge William Bluford Plemons, near Amarillo).

Joe and I collaborated in starting a family newsletter called BRANCHES <http://user.icx.net/~wplemons/>. We have been publishing quarterly for over three years now, and have collected a wealth of information. Through Joe’s and Janet’s research and efforts, several previously unconnected family lines have found their place in the tree. Janet has recently published her work. It is huge, containing over 12,000 names, and going back to the middle 1700’s. She plans to up-date it yearly at Christmas.

I send information to her whenever I can collect it. What we really lack it the latest information. The tree narrows as you go back in time. But the latter day descendents change and multiply so fast that they are hard to know. I know very little of Aunt Julia’s line, but would be glad to share what I have.

I could send to you what I found on my family back to my great-grandfather (Julia’s grandfather). This much I had before meeting Joe and Janet. I ran into a block there, and spent a lot of time trying to research further back. I have most of the info on Julia’s brothers and sisters - birth dates, death dates, etc.

Incidentally, I found a lot of interesting family stories along the way. You and I share one in particular that I would like to hear more about. I am referring to the relationship between Aunt Julia and my Dad. I know that they never visited nor were friendly in the last years, and have heard stories about why this was so. You have probably heard one side and I have heard the other. It would be interesting to compare what we know.

I am looking forward to sharing information with you. Do you have a genealogy program on your computer? If so, I could probably send the info via email, or at least by disk. I use "Family Tree Maker" but I can also send it in other forms. Let me know.

It is good hearing from you. I often wonder what "Pappy" would think if he knew that we were getting to know each other after all these years. Warren Plemons

Hi Warren: Thanks so much for the reply. Sounds like you have been busy. We have a copy of Family Tree Maker and my husband will install it in the next couple of days. It would be great to get what you have. Regarding the story of grandmother and her brother, I haven't heard that, as far as I can remember. Wish I had met Jack and the Plemons before Dad died, so we could have talked about more history. Thank you for sending the info. Kaye B. McConnell

I would like to Plemmons/Plemons newsletter. Enclosed is a check. My parents are Eva and Andrew J. Plemmons. His father and mother are Leona Phillips and James C. Plemmons. Carrie Mae Plemmons

-----------------------------

Hello Carrie, I received your check and have added your address to the list to receive BRANCHES. I sure hope you enjoy the newsletter. From what you told me, I found your listing in the family tree book that Janet Webb from Waynesville published, but there is a lot of information missing. I sure would like to add the missing information if you are willing to share it with me. I will be glad to give you any information that you want from the book and what I have dug up on my own. Janet has been at this a lot longer than I have and she has collected a lot more information than I have. Most of the information that I have is on the Plemmons/Plemons in the East Tennessee area.

I have your brothers and sisters and their birth dates, but nothing about whom they married or their children. I have Betty Lee Plemmons, born August 12, 1928; Joe Gaston Plemmons, born September 15, 1930; Hal Roy Plemmons, born December 4, 1932; and Carrie Mae Plemmons, born September 6, 1935. If any of this is wrong or incomplete, please let me know.

Part of the enjoyment for me is to meet some of the family, either through letters, or personally, and learn about the present-day family. I have really met some good people and have made a lot of new friends this way. I have also learned a lot about our family and have gained a new respect for the name. My Dad didn't talk much about his kin and I grew up thinking that we were the only ones in the country. I later learned that my Great Grandpa came from Buncombe County into upper East Tennessee and settled in Roane County, Tennessee, (later they broke off that part of Roane County and made it Loudon County). Some of us haven't strayed too far from the old home place.

Carrie, it is sure good to make your acquaintance, and I hope that you enjoy BRANCHES. I enjoy sending it out as long as I know that folks like reading it. Your friend and kin, Warren

Janet - I talked with our Host for next year, Roy A. Plemmons. His son is getting married 22 June 2002 and for some strange reason he wants to be there. Change the date to 15 June 2002 in your activity schedule. Now we need to come up with a location for the Friday afternoon and evening "early bird" get together. Got any ideas. Roy might have a preference, I didn't think to ask him when I had him on the phone. How about you give him a call. - Joe Plemons
