NOTE FROM WARREN:
I wish that I had gotten this information just about three days sooner. I could have included it in the Winter 1999-2000 newsletter. And although it does apply only to the Tennessee Plemmons/Plemons, but I am sure that they have the same thing in other states. Check it out .
Recently, news articles began to appear in some local Tennessee papers concerning unclaimed property that is being "held" and administered by the state. This could be money, or anything that may have become transferred to state control through abandonment, etc. They gave an address where to inquire if you thought that you might be on the list. And, they also gave a website where you could simply search for your name. This might be okay if you have a computer and are connected to the web, but what if not? I searched the Plemmons and Plemons name and here is what I found. If you know any of the names listed here, tell them to contact the address below and ask how they go about proving their claim. Give them the property identification number and all the information shown here.
This may not be all of the unclaimed property listed here in the Plemmons/Plemons name. I urge you to make your own search. IF IT IS YOURS, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO CLAIM IT!

I went to the Unclaimed Property Dept. today and inquired as to whatever I might have waiting for me. It turns out that the lady at the desk punched a few computer keys, looked up at me with a straight face and said, "Do you live at 2009 18th Avenue South, Nashville?" No, I replied, I haven't lived there since I was less than 2 years old, just before my parents divorced. She then told me that I had the vast sum of $59.28 which my father left me. It was apparently a small bank account he started in 1956, in a savings and loan institution which no longer exists and hasn't existed in about 35 years. He started the account and then for some reason quit depositing money into it. Or maybe it was just a savings account of his that he forgot about. He died in 1982. I knew him very little. And now I have $59.00 to spend in any way I wish. It will take me nine weeks to get my money. Although I don't want to sound greedy...what happened to the interest???? Even five cents would have accumulated considerable interest by now. Maybe it's because the S&L isn't in existence anymore, but shouldn't the state of TN or whatever bank they deal with take up the slack? This is my first and only experience with this sort of thing. Any ideas? Thanks for turning me on to it, though...when I get the big check I'll have you down and we'll go to McDonalds to celebrate. DWP
