OBITUARIES


BOBBY EARL UNDERDOWN, 66, of Athens, Tennessee departed this life on Thursday, December 12, 2002, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Howard Underdown and Bertie McNelley Underdown Padgett and was of the Baptist faith. He was employed with Athens Furniture for 38 years and served in the U.S. Army. He was very much loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Sue Plemons Underdown, of Athens; three daughters, Sandra White of Athens, Debbie Schievelhud of Chattanooga, and Darlene Williams of Athens; five grandchildren, Josh Clark, Melissa Briones, Travis Schievelhud, Kelli Robinson and Jade Williams; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Barbara Underdown of Athens; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” and Buddy Coleman of Athens, and Geneva Hamby of Athens. Pallbearers were Travis Schievelhud, Matthew Recht, Sam Robinson, Jimmy Coleman, Josh Clark, and Gary Hamby.

GEORGE L. (GLEN) PLEMONS, JR., 68 of Kent, Washington, died at the Veteran’s Hospital in Seattle on January 8th. Born August 9, 1934, in Greenback, Tennessee, he served in the USMC from 1951 to 1954 and in the USAF from 1955 to 1973. He moved to Kent in 1973 and worked for Metro Wastewater Treatment in Renton, Washington, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, Trout Unlimited, and volunteered for the Boy Scouts and Special Olympics.

Survivors include: wife of forty-four years, Delores Plemons of Kent, daughter Anna Plemons of Kent, son and Daughter-in-law Donald and Karen Plemons of Federal Way, Washington, brothers Bobby Dean Plemons of Greenback, Tennessee, and Tom Plemons of Maryville, Tennessee; sisters Alice Hawkins of Vonore, Tennessee; Jean May Plemons of Greenville, South Carolina; and Mildred Plemons and Judy Plemons of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A memorial service was held at 2 P.M., Sunday January 19, at Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church in Greenback. Marlatt Funeral Home of Kent, Washington is serving the family.
