LETTERS
Dallas, Hi
cousin.
We are related but it goes back a great number of years and makes a connection
in North Carolina. My ancestors John Plemons and Cecilia
Hailey, both born 1772 moved from NC to Gilmer County, GA about 1838.
I was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN. and even though I now
live in Maryland, I still claim TN as my home.
I heard about your book "Hell In The Land Of The Morning Calm" if I
got the title correct. I am very much interested in getting a copy
of your book for my personal collection. Let me know how much it
cost and I will post a check to you without delay.
Warren Hale Plemons, editor in chief of our quarterly Plemmons/Plemons
newsletter titled "Branches", would like very much to hear from you.
We are constantly looking for material to put in the newsletter and
would like very much to have a story from you.
I called your phone number in hopes of being able to talk with you.
A very nice lady informed me that you are out of town and will be
for a while.
Hoping to hear from you soon. - Joe Plemons

Hi Warren
and Janet.
My cervical spine operation is scheduled for 0730 am 22 May which is only one
week away. I have a nerve that is being pinched and it causes pain and
numbness in my right arm all the way to my finger tips. I should be
sufficiently recovered to make the reunion.
Warren - Some time back there was an article in the Chattanooga paper about Rev
Dallas Plemmons and Janet and I wondered where he fit in. She has
pieced it together. Following is a cut and paste of a couple
of emails from her. Janet included his email address and I thought you
just might want to contact him direct. There might be a great story
for Branches waiting to be written. I would like to know what
his book is about. Regardless I would like to have a copy since it
is written by a Plemmons.
*************************************
Joe - I just got through watching Dallas Plemmons, the Preacher that we had
wondered about. The newspaper clipping of several years ago. I saw his testimony on
Daystar. They put his address and all on display. I ordered his
book. Here is the address:

Dearest Ruth, - Thank you so much for the information that you sent me about John James Plemons and Mary Adaline Irons. This is a great hurtle in my research. My Cyntha Axley Plemmons middle name is actually Lumima I believe. But some papers have her as Jemima. I have a picture of her and William that was taken the year she died. I will scan it tonight and send it to you via email. My mother never knew much about her family. I have dug up more then she ever thought she would know.
I only got to know about this side of my family when the 1920 census came out in 1991. Even Cynthia's grandchildren knew nothing of the Plemmons side. The story of the family has always been that Martha, my gg grandmother was kidnapped by Indians and when she returned home, she was pregnant with my ggrand mother Jimmie. But records have proved that Jimmies father was James Roach, and that her parents were married in Clay County Texas.
When you come through Texas, if you will let me know where, or if you will be near Ft Worth area, I will meet you somewhere. It would be grand to finally meet someone else working on this line. It is a shame that mother isn't alive to share in this information. She passed away in May of last year with cancer. I always called her and told her the new things that I had learned. I even built a book for her before she passed away so that she could see the progress that I had.
Well, you may contact me anytime. I so enjoyed your letter. If I ever get to Madisonville again, I will look you up. I am hoping that this summer I can take a car ride through Arkansas and Tennessee. So you might be surprised when I turn up at your door step.

Francis: would you pass this to Joe and Warren? Somehow when I changed
computers I lost their address. Thank you
Joe and Warren, Francis I was sorry to read about Jack. I did a video on Jack in his living room a few years ago. I hope I can find it one day. He was a very distinguished man. I will miss the thought of not visiting with him in Arlington.
I had hope to squeeze in a trip to NC this year but not to be. Too many things in too many places. I am hosting the third National Westerfield\velt-Cozine meeting in St. Louis Jul 19-21. The Sheraton is giving us rooms for $100.00 a night.
My Westerfield package when I print it out in 12 pt type with .8 borders is almost 1300 pages. I have a copy of Janet's book.
The Mary Plemons Walter family is having their reunion at Crawford, TX this year. About ten miles from the President's Ranch. I used to dive in the water at the Park. It has been privatized now and you can't get down to the area.
I do enjoy the Branches. And do hope to get by Maryland and GA. one day. But I enjoy being the pastor of this small church. A Southern Baptist in a Congregational Church that is connected to UCC is kinda different. But these folks are conservative. They let me preach the way I want and they seem to respond. It is like I tell them, It is not what you call yourselves, it what is on your heart. And on that we all seem to agree. Love Claude

Joe Harold sent a check along with the obit for Azubah. Horace and Harold were especially cordial when we had the reunions in Hartselle. I really hate hearing about their Mother's death.
Also, Ruth called this morning - very distressed. Her late husband's brother, Ray Plemons, had died (March 27). The obit is in tonight's Athens paper. This comes only a short time after the death of his brother, Bryant Edgar Plemons on March 8. Warren
------------
Warren - Cindy, Horaces daughter sent me email
telling me that Azubah was ailing and not expected to
live long. I had been waiting to hear more from her. Rebecca
and I visited with Azubah and her husband in their
home about five years ago when we were on a trip. They lived in a
little white house close to Horace on the banks of the beautiful Plemons Lake.
I have updated the "Branches" databank with the names and donations
you forwarded to me.
I will be going in for cervical disc surgery soon. I am not sure
just when. The Dr office is going to call me to set the schedule.
Hopefully it will be soon so I can go to the reunion.
A nerve is getting pinched when I move my head in a certain
direction resulting in pain shooting down my right arm accompanied with
numbness. I can relieve it by positioning my head. The
neurosurgeon thinks it is a result of the car accident I was in a few years
ago. Who knows what the cause is as much as I have been tossed
about. I was in a helicopter crash in Nam and that was no laughing
matter. Joe

Hello Warren, My name is
Tracy McCann I am the ggg granddaughter of John C.
Hooker. I am descended through his daughter E. Catherine Hooker and her
second husband Lilburn Nicholson's daughter Lillie. She married Tom Browder and they lived in Sweetwater, TN. My
grandmother was their daughter Paulidith
"Pauline" Browder Holder of Sweetwater.
I received your email address from a Lynn Sheppa
of California. She has been very helpful. She is descended through
Lilburn Nicholson's first wife Sarah.
I do not know anything much about the Hooker line, except that John C. was
Katherine's father and her mother was Rachel ? My mother remembers
hearing a story about a relative named Hooker that was in the civil war.
I thought maybe it could have been him.
I am looking for any information that you might be willing to share. I hope to
hear back from you soon. - Thank You,
Tracy McCann
------
Hello Tracy, I am very glad to meet you. My paternal grandmother was Martha Jane Hooker, sister to E. Catherine. I have some information about the Hooker line, but, like many of the Plemons/Plemmons family members, most Hookers are not eager to share information with me and consider inquiries an invasion of privacy. I have never understood this feeling.
When my grandmother died, her daughters cleaned the house and disposed of many of her possessions by throwing them into a back-porch cistern, including the family Bible.
You may already have the attached picture, but I will send it just in case. . . according to my older sister (who is now 80), this is my AuntCora Plemons (Bonine) on the right, with Lillian Nicholson(later Browder) on her left. I don't know when it was made but they look to be in their late teens. I don't have the date of birth for Lillian, but AuntCora was born in 1892. I have the birth date for Aunt Cat as February 4, 1853. This would have made her late in the child bearing years when Lillian was born if, indeed, they are close to the same age. I my be all wet about all of this, but my sister swears that this is who is pictured. Let me know what you think. Warren

Dear Warren I received the March issue of Branches today another good one. I was so touched by the picture of Colonel (Jack Mayfield) Plemons. Even without the identification I would know he was a Plemons! I was looking into the eyes of family, and I felt a personal loss as I read his obituary. Thank you for bringing us all together in this way. Love Marti
Note from Warren: Marti included an Easter card with the following message:
May you always feel loved and protected,
May you never lose sight of the way.
May you carry the Lord in you heart,
And rejoice in Him this Easter Day!

Dear Warren, -
I am trying to confirm the dates for the reunion for 2002. I have the
dates as June 14,15,16 but have received no information about the
reunion. I was with my Mother, June Akin of Copperhill, last year at the
reunion. I have a cousin who lives in Rockwood and is also
interested. I would appreciated any assistance. My e-mail is gbuhrmann@cfl.rr.com Thanks again for your help.
Lorraine Buhrmann---Lake Mary, Florida
-----------------
HI Lorraine -I hope that the email messages that I sent were received by you. I got "undeliverable" messages back when I tried to send one or to reply to your message. I don't know what I was doing wrong. Maybe this will get through okay.
I hope to see you at the reunion. I am going to try to bring a computer and be able to look up people listed in Janet's book. I brought one last year, but there was so much going on that I didn't set it up. I got to meet a lot of swell people. I'll be looking for you. - Warren

Dear Warren,
Thanks for the information about the reunion. I sent it on to California and also Rockwood,TN. My Mother had found her directions from last year so I guess we will see you on June 15. Thanks, Lorraine Buhrmann
(Note: The email bounced again as undeliverable. So Lorraine I guess that the only way I can get the information to you is through the newsletter. I hope that this gets to you in time to help you attend the reunion. Warren)

Warren I enjoy reading the notes in Branches. Occasionally, I recognize a relatives name. Bryant and J.R. were my Dads half brothers. Ruth, my Aunt, sends occasional notes on family happenings. I know I should send a donation, but wasnt sure where to send it or how much. I/We will be in Greenback the end of May to the second week in June. Maybe Ill see you at the reunion.
I will get the appropriate information from Aunt Ruth if she is home. Or find some way to contact you there. - George AKA Glen Plemons (Kent, Washington)

From Warren - I had to smile while watching This Old House Classics on HGTV a few days ago. Bob asked the contractor if he was related to the homeowner; both names were pronounced the same and were very unusual sounding. The contractor said, No, even though the families are from the same part of the country, the names are spelled differently, therefore they were not related! ---- Uh-huh! Really??
Hi Joe,
Let me introduce myself, I'm Debi, a descendant of John Lafayette Plemmons. I live in Cullman, AL and I've just started researching our family. I bought Janet Webb's book a couple of months ago, and have emailed back and forth with her, mostly about Louisa Plemmons. She was still alive in 1880, we have her in the Morgan Co. census in 1870, with son Francis and wife Emaline living with her and in 1880 she is living with daughter Rebecca and her husband, Robert Owen.
Janet gave the name of a distant cousin, John Robert Plemmons, in Leeds, AL and I have just talked to them on the phone and they, in turn, gave me their cousins' name, Joyce Reese, and I have also just gotten off the phone with her. She gave me your email and phone number, along with a couple of more here in Alabama, which I am about to call.
Do you have any documents, such as war pensions, records, marriage bonds, anything at all that would give a little individual information on the earlier Plemmons? I would be more than happy to share what little I have, which is mostly our line, from John L. on down through his son , John Harvey, my grandmother, Velma, my father, Milton Partain, and our family.
As I said, I've only been doing this for a few months, but I am completely enthralled with it. I'm having a ball, and finding all these relatives out here is just so much fun.
My email is debip@bellsouth.net, and my phone no. is 256-287-2426. I would be more than happy to call, if you would tell me a time and day that's convenient for you or we can just email. Right now, I just want to make all these folks real, any little stories about them, documents, anything.
I've also searched the ship passenger sites and can't find a ship that brought any Plemmons over here. Have you come across anything along that line? Anything is greatly appreciated, and I hope we can stay in touch. Thanks, Debi
-----
Hi Debi - Sorry we didn't connect earlier. We have
had several good size Plemmons/Plemons reunions in Alabama. John
Robert Plemons and Joyce Reese were instrumental in getting it started.
I think it was about 10 years ago when a number of descendants of
Francis Marion Plemons, brother of John LaFayette
Plemmons, gathered for a reunion in Leads, AL at the home of John Robert
Plemons. My grandfather died in Birmingham in 1908 and I was in
search for where he was buried. I wrote a letter and addressed it
to all with the name Plemons or Plemmons in the Birmingham area.
The letter was passed on to Joyce Reese of Illinois by John Robert
and she called me. Joyce informed me of the family reunion at John
Robert's house and I decided to attend. I had a great time
with a wonderful bunch of cousins. After several years holding the
reunion at John Robert's house we went to Hartselle for about three years and
then back to the Leeds area. Last year we went to NC and will be
going back there this year. It has gotten to be a very large
affair.

Warren Plemons publishes a Plemons newsletter and the back issues are posted on
his web page. A small contribution will place you on the mailing
list for a hard copy for one year. What is your address? Joe Plemons
----------
John and
Eloise Plemons just notified me that our beloved cousin Bobbie Williams passed
away.
Can you please send me a copy of her obit?
In lieu of flowers I will make a donation to the continuation of the Plemons
newsletter "BRANCHES" in her memory. She was a very
pleasant lady and I was very fond of her.
