AZUBAH PLEMONS DUNN Hartselle – Funeral for Azubah Plemons Dunn, 97, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with the rev. Harold Brown and the Rev. Alfred Palmer officiating. Burial will be in New Center Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dunn died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born September 19, 1904, in Morgan County to Mike Speegle and Lilliam Patterson

Speegle. She was a homemaker and a member of New Center Baptist Church. She was the mother of the late Hugh Plemons, Doyle Plemons and Frankie Plemons.

Survivors include her husband, Lindsey Dunn; three sons, Horace Plemons, Glen Plemons and Harold Plemons, all of Hartselle; one daughter, Faye Ballenting of Decatur; one step-daughter, Shelia Kyle of Hartselle; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Note from Harold Plemons: Her first husband was Virgil Noah Plemons, born May 28, 1905. He was the son of Walter Joseph Plemons. He died in June of 1982. Virgil’s great-grandfather was Joe “Doc” Plemons. , 67, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his residence.

RAY PLEMONS, 67, of Athens, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his residence.

A native of Monroe County, he lived most of his life in McMinn County and was a son of the late Gus and Ethel Hicks Plemons. He was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters and was a member of McMahan Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and over the years, donated his time as a youth and RA leader and Training Union Director.

He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was a decorated veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.

A well-known general con­tractor, developer and consultant contractor in Athens and sur­rounding areas, he was a mem­ber of Meridian Sun Lodge No. 50 F&AM, the Athens Council No. 118 of Cryptic Masons, McMinn Chapter No. 74 of the Royal Arch Masons and the Athens Commandary No. 34 of Knights Templar. He was also a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga, the Chilhowee Shrine Club in Athens, and a former member of the Chilhowee Shrine Motor Patrol.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jessie Calhoun Plemons of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Ann and Madison S. Trewhitt III of Rocky Face, Ga.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Ray and Pam Plemons and Eric Alan Plemons, all of Athens; three granddaughters, Sarah Rebecca Plemons, Whitney Alexandria Trewhitt and Sloan Elizabeth Trewhitt; one grandson, Christopher Allen Plemons; one step granddaughter, Amber Marie Eaton; one step grandson, Kevin Lee Eaton; one step great-grand­-daughter, Izabella Howard, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Gustay Brazzell and Sue & Bob Underdown; one brother and sis­ter-in-law, Leonard and Betty Plemons; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Bates and the Rev. J.B. Crisp officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mark Plemons, Richard Barnes, Danny Barnes, Donnie Plemons, Steven Malone, Dennis Plemons, Doug Plemons, David Plemons, Roy Moses and Larry Plemons. Honorary pallbearers will be S.T. Mallon, Hal Buttram, Harold Hunter, Barry Willis, Mel Barker, Dan Fisher, David O'Daniel, George Tuell, Zane Ferguson, Dr. Joe Holliday, Gene Wade, Bill Vicars, Donald Harrill and Bob Johnson.

The body will be in state after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday by Meridian Sun Lodge No. 50 F&AM. Jerry Smith Funeral Home of Athens is serving the family of Ray Plemons.

Warren - We saw this obituary in the paper this morning. We didn’t think it was a relative, but it is. You will find her on page 179 in the big blue book. Then I just back-tracked to see who her grandparents were. Her grandfather is William Lafayette Plemons. RUBY PLEMONS BLANKENSHIP

Funeral for Ruby Plemons Blankenship, 83, of Hartselle, Alabama, will be today at one P.M. at Peck Funeral Home with the Reverend Randy Milligan and the Reverend Glenn Smallwood officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Blankenship died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born May 1, 1918, in Morgan County to Claude Plemons and Novie Grantland Plemons. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. She was the widow of John Howard Blankenship.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Blankenship of Hartselle; one daughter, Shirley Riddle of Hartselle; two brothers, Cecil Plemons of Somerville and William Louis Plemons of Hartselle; one sister, Frances Hamilton of Decatur; five grandchildren; Four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Riddle, Michael Riddle, David Cross, John Tidwell, Johnny Plemons and Gary Posey.

Memorial may be given to a church of choice or to Meals on Wheels.

Georgia Plemmons Singleton, 86, born December 14, 1916, died April 23, 2002, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a retiree of the Farmers Federation and member of the East Canton Baptist Church, Canton, North Carolina. Her former home was at 62 Beaverdam Street, in Canton.

She was a native of Madison County, and had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Crease L. and Maggie Price Plemmons.

She was Preceded in death by her husband, Horace Anderson Singleton, who died in 1992; three brothers & two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Cogburn & husband, Robert of Canton; one son, Billy La Rue Morgan & wife, Bobbie of New Bern, NC; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bon-a-Venture Cemetery. Memorials: flowers or Hospice.
