“What happened to the “Branches” website? It is gone!”

Once again, the Internet Service Provider that I was using to host the newsletter sold out to a larger business and the rules, again, changed (I was told!). Now, they want me to renew the site as a yearly contract. After closing the newsletter this didn’t seem economical, so I said “No”. Their answer was that the website would close in one week. This didn’t give time to post a notification, so here is the answer. The website will close and the newsletter will stop with this issue. I regret the closing. I have enjoyed the association that I have discovered with other members of our family, but as in all activities, some participate but most do not. Sadly, this is not a newspaper – just a newsletter. It’s existence depends largely on the news from YOU! A few family relations cannot supply news and articles continually necessary to sustain the newsletter.

-----------

After writing the above note, I sent an email message to every family member that I knew from the internet and told them what was going on. I received an immediate response from Helen Parker, of Springtown, Texas. Helen has offered to host the website and post the Winter 2003 issue. I immediately sent all web files to her and she established http://s89703689.onlinehome.us/ as a temporary address until the domain name 5branches.org can be released in middle December. She said that she was sad to learn that this issue was to be the last that would be published.

I will keep the past newsletters on file in case anyone ever wants a copy of them. I will be glad to send them to you – on a compact disk (CD) in Microsoft “Word” format. Or, you can have them in HTML format if you would like to add them to a website of your own – just a thought!

Thanks to Janet for the information contained on the CD that she has just sent to those who bought her book on the Plemmons/Plemons family history. It looks like she has spent a lot of hours extracting information about the family from the census records and putting it all together in one file. Just think about the number of hours this will save the researcher . . . WOW!!!

To all of you who have contributed pictures and information for the newsletter over the years I want to extend the thanks of all of the family. When I received compliments about the newsletter it made me more aware that it was YOUR newsletter and the interest came from thoughts and memories submitted by you. Thanks for the memories – it has been a wonderful trip! – Your relative! Warren
